Wake Up With Ken Griffey Jr Hitting A Walk-Off Inside-The-Park Home Run
Look at the kid go, he knew this ball had a chance of getting down the second it left the bat, and when Jim Edmonds (normally good) had alligator arms when he got on the warning track and the ball fell, the race was on. I was surprised to see Griffey bust it out of the box, like they said in the video, he missed a ton of games in 2001 due to a hamstring injury. I’d say with anyone else a ball hitting off the wall and rolling that far, it’s an automatic inside the parker, just because of how far that ball went, but not with Jr Griffey, he’s lucky he legged this one out.
I will say that my favorite part of inside-the-park home runs is when the ball rolls away from the defenders and they are in full on sprint mode for it. Then you have the camera switching back to the runner, and he’s busting ass all the way around second, and then we have the camera switch back again, classic camera work. But seriously, Griffey was moving around second and third after slowing up a little before he got to second. He turned the jets on and motored home for the walk-off win. Even cooler that his dad was with the club at this time and he was in the dugout to see this. Just another awesome moment in Griffey Jr’s career.
